Raising public awareness
The environmental impact of a media company mainly hinges on its ability to inform the public of environmental issues. Ushuaïa TV is a Group theme channel dedicated entirely to environmental protection and biodiversity. Because sustainable development is covered every day in the news, we have designed a Sustainable Development Barometer to identify potential new ecological solutions and share them better. LCI airs a weekly programme called “Tous acteurs du changement” (“Everyone responsible for change”) on the social and socially responsible economy.
Ecoprod fostering green production
The audiovisual sector as a whole contributes just 1% of greenhouse gas emissions in France. But it is duty bound to take part in the collective environmental effort. To encourage internal and external producers to adopt new practices, TF1 alongside other public and private players set up the Ecoprod collective project in 2009. All the professionals in the sector can take advantage of Ecoprod resources – including tools, practical information sheets, and interviews with experts – free of charge. To spread the word on the initiative and the website, Ecoprod commissioned the Cube production company to make a short film inspired by the Oscars. So no more excuses: let’s make the switch to eco-production now!
Controlling energy consumption at our head offices
At our operating sites in Boulogne-Billancourt and Issy-les-Moulineaux, the Corporate Services Department, service providers and all our employees are focused on reducing energy consumption and waste. A “Commuting Plan” was introduced in 2010. The most recent staff survey showed a sharp decrease in individual vehicle use to the advantage of electric vehicles and carpooling. TF1’s own electric vehicle fleet, along with the Velib’ bike rental service downstairs, are gaining more and more fans with each new day!
